Additional Informations: Eric Clapton, the legendary British guitarist, is well-known for his passion for exclusive watches, and among them is this remarkable Universal Genève timepiece. It is a Universal Genève Tri-Compax Chronograph from the 1960s. This model is considered one of the most iconic and coveted vintage watches from this brand. It features a classic stainless steel case and a dial with three, or better said four smaller sub-dials that display various functions: a small seconds sub-dial, a 30-minute chronograph display, a 12-hour chronograph display, and a moon phase complication with a date indicator. There are additionally two small windows, which display the day of the week and the month. These functions make it a full calendar watch, which was a highly complex complication for its era.
It even boasts a tachymeter scale printed on the bezel, making it an incredibly versatile choice, suitable for enthusiasts of motorsports and other timing-related activities.
The symmetrical arrangement of the dark sub-dials on an ivory dial gives this model a wonderfully romantic touch, likely making it one of the most beautiful wristwatches from the 1960s/1970s. It exudes vintage charm like few others.
This exceptionally well-preserved example comes with a provenance; it was offered at the renowned auction house Christie's in 2017. It was acquired by a German collector who kept it in a safe for most of the time. Upon receiving the watch, we had the movement completely overhauled by a specialist several months ago, and since then, it has not been worn.
As you can easily see in the pictures, it features an entirely unpolished case. All the numbers are clearly visible on the case back, and even the "stainless steel" inscription is still fully intact, which is quite remarkable. All the luminous markers are intact, and the Tritium hasn't deteriorated. The hands are also in like-new condition. We dare say this is the best example currently available on the market.
