The IWC Da Vinci Ref. 3755 is one of the most fascinating creations to emerge from Schaffhausen during the 1980s. Developed from the legendary Da Vinci introduced in 1985, it combines Kurt Klaus’ ingenious perpetual calendar with a chronograph, moonphase display and four digit year indication. All calendar functions can conveniently be adjusted via the crown.
In 1986, IWC took another remarkable step by introducing the Ref. 3755 with a case made from black zirconium oxide ceramic combined with 18k gold, creating what IWC describes as the world’s first wristwatch with a black ceramic case.
This particular example is even more unusual, combining the black ceramic case with 18k yellow gold elements and the original solid IWC yellow gold bracelet. Most examples known today are fitted with leather straps, making watches with the solid gold bracelet exceptionally difficult to find.
Inside is the automatic IWC Calibre 79261, based on the Valjoux 7750 and equipped with Kurt Klaus’ ingenious perpetual calendar mechanism.
Black ceramic, solid gold and one of the most important perpetual calendar constructions of its era. An extraordinary Da Vinci and a fascinating example of just how innovative IWC was almost 40 years ago.
