It owes its name to the exceptionally dark discoloration of its originally black dial, which has developed over the decades. Particularly sought-after are examples from the narrow S86 serial number range, also referred to by collectors as the “Magic Number”.
What originally resulted from changes in the dial lacquer has become one of the most interesting phenomena among Zenith Daytona collectors.
