Additional Informations: We are delighted to offer this perfect Rolex Explorer, reference 14270, from 1992, featuring the extremely rare “Blackout” dial in a full set. The dial shows the correct silver print, and the applied numerals at 3, 6, and 9 are filled in black instead of Tritium, setting it apart from the later variants.
The “Blackout” dials were produced only for a very short period at the beginning of the 14270’s production (around 1990 to 1992) and are therefore exceptionally rare today. It is believed that Rolex soon changed this design - presumably to improve legibility - by making the numerals white instead.
Our example appears to be one of the very last ones produced, belonging to the N-series.
Reference 14270 marked the transition from the classic 1016 to the modern Explorer and introduced, for the first time, a sapphire crystal, the Caliber 3000, and applied white-gold indices. Combined with the matte black dial and the discreet, almost understated “blackout” typography, the result is an especially elegant yet technical overall impression that makes this early version so desirable.
This example impresses with its superbly preserved original condition and complete documentation - a truly collectible piece of Rolex history, offered in a configuration that is exceedingly rare to find on the market today.
