Additional Informations: This Rolex Submariner reference 5512 from 1962 is an outstanding example of an early professional dive watch and is preserved in a condition that can truly be described as museum quality. The untouched gilt “Exclamation Point” dial captivates with a full, deep black mirror gloss, a feature that has survived on only very few examples from this era. The gilt galvanic text is crisp, sharp, and fully intact; the dial as a whole appears virtually untouched and conveys an exceptional sense of authenticity.
The gilt hands display a warm, even patina that harmonizes perfectly with the tritium hour markers, giving the watch remarkable depth and presence. Of particular note is the so-called “Exclamation Point Dial”: the small luminous dot positioned below the 6 o’clock index resembles an exclamation mark and gave this rare dial variant its name. Historically, this detail marks a transitional phase in the early 1960s when Rolex reduced the tritium content in the luminous material. An intriguing witness to regulatory changes of the period and a highly sought-after feature among collectors.
The case has been carefully refinished by one of the most respected vintage specialists (explicitly without any laser welding) and remains in its original material state. The proportions are exceptionally well preserved, with perfectly straight case sides and chamfers, as found only on watches that have been treated with the utmost care. The substance and presence of the case further emphasize the extraordinary overall condition of the watch.
The Submariner is completed by an original flexible riveted Oyster stainless steel bracelet with reference 6636, perfectly period-correct and reinforcing the authentic vintage character. The fitted bezel insert with the coveted “Long 5 kissing 40” configuration is another standout feature and integrates seamlessly into the overall appearance of this early Submariner.
