Additional Informations: In 1959, the Rolex Submariner had been on the market for just six years. Nobody could have imagined that this simple diving watch would one day become one of the most sought-after wristwatches in the world.
Our Ref. 5508 dates back to exactly that early period and has aged over the past 67 years in a way that vintage collectors can only dream of.
The originally black gilt dial has developed a beautiful, warm tropical brown tone, along with a subtle so-called “Spider Web” effect, a delicate, web-like pattern that gives the dial its own distinctive character.
The 5508 belongs to the last generation of Submariners without crown guards. Its slim 38 mm case, small winding crown and domed acrylic crystal make it a true classic among early Rolex diving watches.
What makes this example particularly impressive is its remarkable original condition. Even the original bezel insert with its iconic “Red Triangle” has survived in nearly perfect condition.
